The Journey of a thousand miles....

Begins with a self-aggrandizing blog posting...

In that spirit here I am.

I have created this blog so that I may chronicle and track my own progress as I strive to attain a complete run of Bowman and Topps Baseball cards from 1948-1979.

This task as you might imagine will not be an easy one, it is not for the faint of heart...

When complete this run would consist of 17,936 different cards, an astronomical number.

Fortunately though I do have some elements that work in my favor:
  • I'm a young man of 23 in reasonable health with a fair amount of time left given average life expectancy.
  • I'm patient.
  • I'm dedicated and determined.
  • I have already in my collecting life made some progress towards this goal.
  • And more importantly, I'm insane... which no doubt explains this endeavour completely.
In regards to progress, here is where we stand in this initial entry:

Cards in my Collection: 4,391
Total Cards needed: 17,936
Cards remaining to achieve goal: 13,545
Percentage Complete: 24.4%

So there it is... I'm closing in on one quarter completion. Fortunately the 1970s happen to hold the greatest concentration of cards from this run and also happen to be the most affordable decade within it. Thus my concentration shall be on making as much progress with those as possible while continuing to chip away at the other sets as opportunities arise.

In that spirit, I won some 1955 Bowman's on ebay thanks to the power of ebay stores so I shall probably have something to look forward to early on in January.

Let the games begin...
